Halekulani Hotel

The 456-room Halekulani is a graceful oasis spread on five acres beachfront at Waikïkï.
Its main building was originally designed by noted island architect Charles Dickey, completed in 1932 and gained renown as one of the longest standing landmarks for generations of residents and visitors who admired this "House Befitting Heaven."

The property captured the imagination of author Earl Derr Biggers, whose Charlie Chan novel, "House Without A Key," became a hit. Today, the House Without A Key open-air restaurant, named after the novel, recalls a time well before the late 20th century, when Hawaii homes needed no locks.

The Veranda is home to cocktails in the evening and afternoon tea. It overlooks the Dolphin Lagoon, home to dolphins and green sea turtles, or honu. Here, a 2-year-old turtle gets weighed in and measured by a member of Dolphin Quest, which nurtures and studies the dolphins until age 4, when they have a better chance of surviving when released back into the wild.
